Let's hear it for Bomb Pops! The quintessential summer treat. Fourth of July, fireworks, summer BBQs, baseball games, trips to the lake, and chasing the ice cream man all rolled into one. Also the thing you really want to look like they do in the ads, but usually end up melting in the car on the way home and looking more like ceramics class with kindergarteners when you pull them back out of the freezer.
If you prefer to keep the illusion going I made a wallpaper for your phone and you can find it here.
Ice Milk bars have the same issue - you just don't know about it until you take a bite and find the inside is full of crystals instead of creamy goodness. That's why I don't eat dairy. Ok, not really, but it is a good reason to seek the coconut milk bars if you're craving the chocolate dipped version of summer.
And speaking of chocolate - Friday was #WorldChocolateDay! Like chocolate needs a special day. Ha! Seriously? But as long as we're celebrating may I suggest Talenti Chocolate Sorbetto? Have you tried it? #notanad It's freaking delicious! So rich and dark that you only need a couple bites and absolutely amazeballs topped with some fresh cherries, which just happen to be in season. Coincidence? I think not. (BTW, If you happen to have an over abundance of cherries and you're not sure what to do with them you can always send them to me. Failing that - The Kitchn put out this handy guide.)
Speaking of Bomb Pops and Cherries and Fourth of July and everything else summer - you always think holiday weekends are going to be a great time to get things done. You'll spend a little time with family, eat some great food, sleep in, maybe do a little reading (BTW, Happy Anniversary Harry Potter!! Who else is celebrating by re-reading all the books?) and that you'll have an extra day at the end to take care of some of those nagging chores on you list. In my case it's not so much nagging chores (Seriously, I don't even hear you anymore dirty kitchen floor! You can just shut up!) For me it's trying to finish the great "moving my office, 2017 edition." As some of you might know if you follow my Instagram Stories, a few weeks ago I realized that the room next to my studio is unoccupied (yes, I know, I live here, I should have realized this sooner) and that the room I'm currently using as an office is HUGE compared to the space I actually need, so I got this great idea to m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶P̶i̶n̶t̶e̶r̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶b̶o̶a̶r̶d̶ ̶f̶u̶l̶l̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶c̶o̶o̶l̶ ̶o̶f̶f̶i̶c̶e̶-̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶s̶* clear out the smaller room and set it up as my new office. Unfortunately, just deciding on a paint color takes more than one trip to Lowes and more than one extra day off so it's been slow going. I did find a fabulous rattan chair at the flea market, ordered a beautiful black and white rug (after agonizing over this, sadly, too small bit of amazingness) and got a floofy pink sheepskin for Picco to lay on. All the trim is painted, as is the closet, and I got the ceiling and half the walls painted this weekend. I'm still shopping for curtains but I found a cushion for the chair, and at some point I really have to make a decision on whether to take my HUGE desk with me or try to find something smaller. Either way, I also need to do something about my butt-ugly office chair. I'm thinking a bit of DYI might be in order because as ugly as it is it is way more comfy than a milk crate and that's about all I can afford to replace it with at the moment. If and when I ever get finished I'll give you a proper tour. In the meantime, here's a pic of the yellow paint I picked for the closet.
It's like sunshine in a can.
Speaking of sunshine - we're back to another heat wave this week so I'm going to be spending a lot of time indoors in the AC. If you've got any tips for staying cool in the summer please leave me a note in the comments. A girl can only eat so many Bomb Pops before she turns purple.
And finally, here's a few things:
- Barbie released a new collection of Ken dolls.
- Yoga changes your DNA!
- Watch this if you've always wanted to meditate but don't think you know how. (Hint: Sit down. Be quiet.) Actually, even if you already know how you should watch it. It's only a couple minutes long, narrated by Dan Harris, and it's brilliant.
- Ever wondered which pesticides are on which foods? This will tell you. (Hint: buy organic whenever you can, kids.)
- My friend Ruth sent me this in honor of my new intern and it's freaking hilarious!
- This sub-reddit is a Wes Anderson dream.
Until next time! xo, Juj
